The consortium LG Philips, already known for its constant research into the development of ultra-thin displays, has just applied for a patent for a screen FOLED, which uses water and oil to show the images.
The main problem of the current flexible OLED screens seems to be the excessive heat generated, thus making their production complex and therefore expensive.
LG Philips eliminates this problem by generating the pixels with water and oil: the latter (opaque) float above the dark water a given area. At this point the application of electricity would change the color of the pixel at will.
So in the end this “simple” and inexpensive process approaches the future of flexible screens.
